Xactimate Interior Sketch with Precision

Hi there!

Let’s dive into interior sketching today, building on the measurements from Matterport. If you missed that video, don’t worry – you can check it out later. Now, let’s start crafting our Xactimate interior sketch.

Setting Up Your Workspace:

  • Whether you’re using a dual-screen setup or a single screen, keep your Matterport measurements handy. Sketching on one screen while viewing measurements on another works great.

Starting Your Sketch:

  • Open a new tab for “Interior Sketch.” Start by setting the elevation, usually 8ft for interior walls. The roof should start around 10 feet.

Sketching Room Outlines:

  • Use the wall tool for room outlines. They don’t have to be perfect – it’s just an estimate.

Refining Dimensions:

  • For more accuracy, refer to your Matterport measurements. You might find measurements like 3 feet, 2 inches.

Naming and Labeling:

  • Give each section a name like “Primary Bedroom,” “Primary Bathroom,” “Living Room,” etc. This keeps things clear and organized.

Adjusting for Irregularities:

  • If walls or rooms are uneven, use the freeform wall tool to fix them. The aim is a clear and orderly sketch.

Sketching the Roof:

  • Move to the roof tab, layering it over the interior sketch. Be mindful of details like hip roofs and entrances affecting the roof’s symmetry.

Organizing Your Sketch:

  • In the estimate items tab, logically arrange your sketched rooms. A logical flow from bedrooms to living areas improves clarity.

Completing Your Sketch:

  • Finish your sketch, ensuring it accurately reflects the interior layout. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it should be a solid basis for your estimate.

Adding Final Touches:

  • Organize and label your sketches for easy future reference. A well-structured sketch makes the estimation process smoother.

Remember, while precision is important, extreme detail isn’t always necessary for estimates. This method strikes a balance between accuracy and efficiency in Xactimate Interior Sketch.
