Field Adjuster Equipment: Harness, Grigri, and Ascenders

Alright, let’s dive into using a harness and related gear for roof inspections.

We’ve got a harness here made for rope work. It wraps around your waist and protects your legs. This type of harness is what major insurance companies, like State Farm, require for rope work. It’s important to choose a hip-securing harness designed for forward movement, not the back-supporting kind meant for traditional roofers.

Next up, the Grigri. It’s a simple, three-piece device that, when combined with a rope, keeps you safe on the roof. The Grigri locks the rope when you put pressure on it, so you can’t move backward. It lets you move forward but prevents you from falling off.

The Ascender pairs with the Grigri for extra safety as you go up the roof. It has spikes that grip the rope, stopping any downward movement, which is key for your safety.

You’ll also need a big, sturdy latch with a turning feature to keep everything secure on your harness. This stops it from opening by accident and keeps your equipment in place.

So, when you’re getting ready, step into the harness, tighten it around your thighs and hips, and lock the latch. Add the Grigri and Ascender, making sure they’re attached correctly. This setup enhances your safety during roof inspections.

Before heading out, make sure you’ve got your Cougar Paws, the harness, Grigri, Ascender, Ridge Pro, and rope. Keep it all organized for easy access.

Next time, we’ll look at how to use this equipment effectively with a rope. More field adjuster tips coming your way soon! See you then!
