Field Adjuster Equipment: Rope and Harness Refresher

Okay, today I’m going to show you how the rope, the Grigri, and the Ridge Pro all work together.

I won’t need the Cougar Paws for this demo. Let’s start with the rope.

First, pull out the fender, unlock it, and let it extend. Remember those spikes I talked about? Here’s how they work: put the fender into the slot, release it, and the spikes grip the rope tightly. Going up is easy – you’ll see how smoothly it moves. But if you try to go back or fall off the roof, it locks in place, adding an extra layer of safety. You can go up all you want, but to go back, you have to release it first.

Next up, the Grigri. Unlock it and place it under the ascender on the rope. Its orientation depends on which hand you use most. For a right-handed Grigri like this one, open it, put the rope in, and lock it. The Grigri allows you to move up easily and locks when you pull down, so you can’t fall off the roof.

A quick note – this isn’t a replacement for proper rope and harness training. You should take a certified course for that. This is just a refresher for those who already know how to use this gear.

The ascender locks in place, adding another safety layer. It prevents you from sliding down accidentally.

For descending, you need to release the ascender. Pull it and carefully go down, staying in control. Keep the ascender on when you need to release tension. This keeps your grip secure, even off the roof.

Remember, this isn’t a substitute for formal training. If you’re new to this, take a certified course before using this equipment. Safety first.

I hope this helps you understand how to use these tools effectively. Look out for more educational videos. We hope you find these field adjuster insights useful. See you next time!
